What is Rooting? Top 5 Reasons to Root your phone

what is rooting how to root a phone

Rooting

Suppose you bought a new phone. The phone especially android phone, however, limits your privileges and tries to impose sanctions on you. You may not be able to install certain applications or perform certain tasks as mother Google doesn't allow you. Now the only option left to obtain back real ownership of you phone is to root it. You heard it right. Rooting, according to Wikipedia, is the process of allowing smartphone users gain super-user (or privileged) control over their devices in the same way as you gain super-user control over your Linux system with FreeBSD or MacOS.

Android is an open-source mobile Operating system with accomplished reputation due to its versatility, and you can add to its features with the simple task to rooting.

Now, let us discuss the advantages of a rooted phone over a non-rooted handset.

1. Removing Pre-Installed Bloatware

Many smartphones especially those of Korean/Chinese vendors come pre-loaded with irritating bloatware, that has nothing to do with user functionality. Sometimes these crappy applications can be uninstalled but most of the times, they can't be uninstalled. To cope up with this problem; the only solution that may seem feasible is going with the rooting option.

2. Unofficial Upgrades and Customization

Most of the phones from popular manufacturers include beautiful interfaces; but sometimes it may be reverse. Some phones have ugly UIs and you may want to customize them at least or completely replace them. This is now possible, as you can flash custom ROMs onto your smartphones, the reason may be simply beautiful UI or added functionality.
Now and then manufacturers discontinue updates for their old customers, and you may want to stick to your favorite phone. Rooting allows you to install newer version of Android OS to your phone.

3. Running "Unsupported" Apps

Many of the smartphone users come across a situation where they can't install their favorite applications, or the app has limited functionality on your un-rooted device. One of the perks rooted phones have over their unrooted counterparts is that they can run whatever software they want on their phone. (Well, you can't run iOS apps on a rooted android though) This helps a lot.

4. Tweaking your phone's battery and performance

There are great apps on Play Store that are worth installing on your android phones. An App from Oasis Feng, Greenify allows you to enhance your battery life (you can last almost 2-3 hours more with greenify enabled). This application works by hibernating power-hungry applications, and requires a rooted phone for limitless functionality. Now comes performance, many apps allow you change default values of your android to enhance your phone's performance by Overclocking your CPU. Long thing short, you can perform functions that an unrooted phone user wont be able to.

5. Backing up

Apps like NANDROID can backup you apps along with their preferences and data without much hardwork. Some manufacturers like LG provide you with a backup app, but that can only be restored afterwards on an another LG phone. By rooting your phone, and using one of these backup companions, you would be able to ace this task as well.

Conclusion

Rooting is an experience you ought to taste. But we recommend it first trying on an old smartphone, don't start with an expensive phone and later blaming me for the loss. I'll be explaining passive and safe methods for rooting soon. So Stay Tuned!
